PE, Sport and Activity

PE, sport and physical activity are all interlinked areas that we hold in high regard at Willowpark. PE is taught primarily by Class Teachers and also supplemented by expert sport Coaches. Class Teachers and coaches work in tandem to deliver consistently high quality PE in line with national curriculum expectations. Teachers follow a detailed and progressive PE scheme as a basis for sequences of lessons but make adaptations to this where necessary.

Each half term all children will have the opportunity to access extra curricular sport either in school or out of school. Selected pupil Sport Leaders will work collaboratively with the PE lead to carefully select which inter school events will be attended and which 'none traditional' sports will be accessed either in or out of school through after school clubs. Coaches will also deliver sessions at play times and lunchtimes.

Along with PE and sport, children will have regular opportunities to carry out physical activity to help improve overall mental and physical health. These will include but not be limited to: Daily miles; active breaks in lessons; structured activities at break and lunch times and activity challenges both in school and at home.

This approach ensures children will be explicitly taught a wide range of sports both indoors and outdoors, as well as being given an opportunity to develop their skills and ability in line with national curriculum expectations. They will have access to a broad range of both traditional and none traditional sports in and out of school and will have regular access to structured physical exercise.
